03 · OPEN THE BIBLE

The perfect-day challenge.

Imagine a contest: go one whole day without complaining, arguing, or being unkind. No grumbling about breakfast. No eye rolls at your little brother. No big sighs when it’s time to clean up. The prize is a giant trophy. Easy, right? Most people don’t make it past lunch.

Now imagine the contest lasts your whole life. Every thought, every word, every action, every single day—perfect. Loving God with everything and loving everyone as much as you love yourself. No one could win that contest. Not you, not your parents, not your pastor, not the kindest person you know.

That’s what our Bible verses are saying. Paul writes that there is no one righteous, not even one. Righteous means right with God—always doing what’s right. Ever since the first people turned away from God, every human heart has leaned away from him. We all fall short.

That might sound like bad news. It is serious. But it’s also honest, and honesty can be freeing. You don’t have to pretend to be perfect. Nobody at your table is perfect either. We can stop comparing who’s better and admit that all of us need help. And help is exactly what God gives.

Here’s where the good news comes in. One person did keep God’s law perfectly: Jesus. He is fully human like us, but he is also God the Son—and he never sinned, not once. He loved his Father and his neighbors all the way. And he didn’t keep that perfect record just for himself. He offers it to everyone who trusts him.

So when you mess up this week—and you will—don’t hide or give up. God already knew you couldn’t be perfect. That’s why he sent Jesus. Run to him, say sorry, and thank him that his perfect life counts for you.

3. What does it mean that Jesus’s perfect life can count for us?

Try answering one yourself first. “I don’t know yet” is a fine place to start a conversation.

06 · TALK TO GOD

Let’s pray.

Holy God, we confess that we don’t keep your law perfectly. We complain, we get selfish, and we go our own way. Thank you that you already knew, and that you sent Jesus to keep your law for us. Help us stop pretending to be perfect and run to you when we fall short. Thank you for loving us right here. Amen.

Then invite everyone to add one thing they want to tell God.

07 · MAKE IT STICK

A little truth to learn by heart.

Try saying this week’s answer perfectly five times in a row—no stumbles, no pauses, no giggles. Hard, isn’t it? Laugh at the slips, then say it one last time slowly together, holding up one finger for Jesus, the only one who ever got everything right.
