03 · OPEN THE BIBLE

The whiteboard wiped clean.

Imagine a whiteboard covered in writing. Every unkind word you’ve said. Every time you disobeyed. Every selfish choice. The list goes on and on until there’s no white space left. Now imagine someone picks up an eraser and wipes the whole board clean. Not just a corner. Not most of it. Every single mark.

That’s what Jesus’s death means for everyone who trusts him. The Bible teaches that when Jesus died on the cross, he paid for sin completely. Nothing left over. No little leftover bill we still have to pay.

When Jesus was dying, one of the last things he said was, “It is finished.” He wasn’t saying, “I’m finished.” He was saying, “It’s done. The work I came to do is complete.” It’s like a bill stamped “Paid in Full.”

Paul describes a swap that sounds almost too good to be true. God made Jesus, who never sinned, to carry our sin, so that we could receive his righteousness—his perfect goodness. Jesus took our mess. We get his clean record. It’s the greatest swap in history. It wasn’t a fair trade for Jesus, but he chose it anyway, for the joy of bringing us home.

And here’s something beautiful: God promises to remember our sins no more. God knows everything, so this doesn’t mean he forgets the way we forget where we put our shoes. It means he chooses never to hold our sins against us again. He doesn’t bring them up. He doesn’t keep a list.

So if you feel bad about something you’ve done, tell God and say sorry. Then believe him when he says you’re forgiven. You don’t have to keep carrying guilt for sins Jesus already paid for. The board is clean.

Let’s pray.

Father, thank you that Jesus paid for all our sins—every single one. Thank you that you choose to remember them no more. When we feel guilty about things you have already forgiven, help us believe your promise. Thank you for giving us Jesus’s righteousness. Help us live joyfully as your forgiven children. Amen.
