Start with a question.

“What’s something that’s way more fun with a group than by yourself?”

Games, singing, a parade, a water-balloon fight… some things just need people.

03 · OPEN THE BIBLE

The choir.

One voice singing alone can be beautiful. But listen to a whole choir—high voices, low voices, and voices in between—singing the same song together. The sound fills the room. Each voice is different, but together they make something none of them could make alone.

That’s a picture of the church. When we hear the word church, we might think of a building with a steeple or a room full of chairs. But the church isn’t a building. It’s people—everyone who belongs to Jesus. The building is just where the choir meets.

Paul tells his friends that God chose them from the very beginning. The Spirit worked in their hearts, and they believed the truth about Jesus. The church is a family God gathered on purpose. We aren’t together by accident. God chose us, gave us faith, and joined us to Jesus and to one another.

So what does the church do? It loves God and loves one another. It follows Jesus. It learns from God’s Word. And it worships God together. You can pray and read the Bible alone, and that’s good. But God made us to follow him with other people, too.

The church includes grandparents and babies, loud people and quiet ones, people from every nation, language, and skin color. It includes Christians who lived long ago and Christians who live across the world today. It’s the biggest family there is—and if you trust Jesus, you’re part of it.

The church isn’t perfect. It’s made of forgiven sinners who are still growing. Sometimes we disagree or hurt each other. But Jesus loves his church, and he is making it beautiful. So look around this Sunday—you’re singing with the choir.

06 · TALK TO GOD

Let’s pray.

Heavenly Father, thank you for gathering your people into one big family. Thank you for our church. Help us love you and love one another, follow Jesus, learn from your Word, and worship you together. Make us a church that welcomes everyone, especially people who feel alone. Amen.

Then invite everyone to add one thing they want to tell God.

07 · MAKE IT STICK

A little truth to learn by heart.

Say it like a choir: high voices take the first part, low voices take the next part, and everyone joins in on the last part. Then switch parts and sing it again.
